Moon Theatre announces auditions for “Moonlight and Magnolias” by Ron Hutchinson, comedy/farce directed by Brie Michaels.

When: Mon. 6:30pm, 2/3 auditions; Tues. 6:30pm, 2/4 callbacks

What: Cold readings from the script

Bring: Theatre resume and any conflicts. The cast is expected to help with construction of the set (which is on Saturdays), help with load-in late afternoon on 4/12 and strike after the final show on 4/26

Rehearsals: Mostly in Berthoud approx. 4 evenings/week. Possibility of some weekend rehearsals.

Performances: at the historic Rialto Theatre in Loveland, 2 Fridays, 2 Saturdays, 2 Sunday matinees, 4/17-4/26

1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay, you see, just doesn’t work. So what’s an all-powerful movie mogul to do?

​While fending off the film’s stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.

Ages are stage ages, not necessarily your age

• David O. Selznick, 37 –Controlling, enthusiastic film producer obsessing over his biggest project, Gone with the Wind.
• Ben Hecht, 46 – Wise-cracking screenwriter. Brought in by Selznick to overhaul the screenplay for Gone with the Wind.
• Victor Fleming, 50 –Tall, handsome, and robust, known as a “man’s director.” Pulled off The Wizard of Oz at MGM to direct Gone with the Wind for Selznick.
• Miss Poppenghul – Could be 30s-70s. Selznick’s efficient and loyal secretary, probably the element that keeps her boss from breaking down. Small but fun role for an actress who can take it and run with it.
